Certain countries come to mind when we think about immigration, and one that tops the list as a popular immigration destination is Canada.

With a sound healthcare system with various free services, an excellent education system with free public education, and various employee benefits, it’s not hard to see why this country has become a top-ranking choice.

Although to be eligible for these benefits, you must be a permanent resident. So without further ado, here are the ways to obtain permanent residency in Canada.

The Express Entry System

If you haven’t heard, Express Entry plans to send out 108,500 Invitations to Apply by the end of 2021. (ITA). With a target of 401,000 applicants by 2021, Express Entry has risen to become one of Canada’s key immigration drivers.

Apart from the Federal Skilled Worker Program, Express Entry oversees the Canadian Experience Class, the Federal Skilled Trades Program, and the Federal Skilled Trades Program.

Foreign skilled workers can apply for permanent residency through the Express Entry program. This permits you to become a permanent resident in as little as six months, making it one of the easiest ways to immigrate to Canada. These are the steps:

  1. Establish Your Eligibility

It’s essential to first figure out if you are eligible for Express Entry and which of the three programs you can apply to. Once you meet the conditions, you will create a profile.

  1. Create an Express Entry Profile

Express Entry needs you to provide information such as your age, employment history, education, and language ability, among other things. If necessary, submit supporting documentation. Your responses will then be converted to a Comprehensive Ranking System (CRS) score, which will determine your place in the Express Entry pool.

  1. Fill Out the Invitation to Apply (ITA)

If your CRS score qualifies you for an Express Entry draw, you will be sent an ITA. With an ITA, you can seek permanent residency in Canada. If you are invited to apply, you have 60 days to file your application for permanent residence.

The Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The PNP is one of the top three ways to get permanent residency in Canada (PNP). This is intended for qualified foreign employees who want to live permanently in Canada and contribute to a province’s economy. Provinces and the federal government have achieved an agreement that would allow provinces to recommend skilled foreign workers for permanent residency.

Based on your skills and needs, you may apply to  Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Nunavut, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, Newfoundland and LabradorSaskatchewan, and Yukon.

That said, make sure to apply to a province or territory where your skills or occupation are in high demand to boost your chances of being nominated and, therefore, to acquire permanent residency. Although, this process takes substantially longer than Express Entry.

Depending on the PNP stream, you can apply on paper or online through Express Entry. Here are the steps:

  • Paper-based System

Submit an application for a non-Express Entry nomination to a province or territory, meet the province’s qualifying conditions, submit a mail-in application for permanent residency to Immigration, Refugees, and Citizenship Canada (IRCC), as well as pass a physical examination and obtain a police clearance certificate.

  • Express Entry System

When using the Express Entry system, you have two options. You can do the following:

  1. Fill out an Express Entry nomination form and send it to your province or territory administration. If a province agrees to nominate you, you can build an Express Entry profile and declare as such or apply directly to the federal government.
  1. Create an Express Entry profile and list the provinces you want to visit. If a province contacts you about your profile, you can contact them directly and apply for Express Entry.

The Family Sponsorship Program

The Family Sponsorship Program allows Canadian citizens, Indians, and permanent residents to sponsor their relatives. Consider sponsoring your husband, partner, or child.

If you are a Canadian citizen, an Indian Act member, or a permanent resident of Canada, you can be a sponsor. Furthermore, the sponsor must meet the core needs of the sponsored individual.

Sponsors may include in their sponsorship their spouse, common-law partner, conjugal partner, and dependent children. With this, one of the advantages of moving to Canada through family sponsorship is the potential to become a permanent resident.

Conclusion

Being a permanent resident of Canada entitles you and your family to a plethora of benefits. You can live and work anywhere in Canada, and you can even sponsor your partners or children for permanent residence and citizenship. Here, you can build a life with a fresh start!
