Express Entry

Canada is always looking for qualified candidates with the right skills, knowledge, and expertise . Under the Express Entry system, there are three primary programs. Canadian Experience Class (CEC), Federal Skilled Workers (FSW) and the Federal Skilled Trades (FST).

The CEC program is for those who have secured at least 1-year of Canadian work experience in a skilled occupation(s) may qualify for this program. This program like the others, sometimes have invitations and scores specific for this program.

Federal Skilled Worker program, more commonly known as the FSW program is geared for those who are outside of Canada. This program provides a wonderful opportuninty for people to immigrate directly to Canada!

The third program is the “Federal Skilled Trade” class where individuals who apply for permanent residence are assessed through the point system however, tends to have the lowest score requirements. They belong to a designated skill trade group such as industrial, electrical, construction, technical occupations, natural resource, agriculture, and manufacturing. Individuals belonging to these skill trade groups may be chosen for permanent residence, depending on the needs of the Canadian labour force.

Eligibility Requirements:

Canadian Experience Class – Express Entry

  • Have at least 1-year full-time work or 2-year part-time work experience in a skilled occupation.
  • Meet the minimum language requirements in English, French or both.
  • Must of obtain work experience while legally authorized to work in Canada

Federal Skilled Workers – Express Entry

  • Meet the minimum language requirements in English, French or both.
  • Possess at least 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the past 5 years.
  • Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as prescribed by the National Occupation Classification.
  • Have a valid job offer of full-time employment for at least 1 year OR a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade.

Federal Skilled Trades – Express Entry
  • Meet the minimum language requirements in English, French or both.
  • Possess at least 2 years of full-time work experience in a skilled trade within the past 5 years.
  • Meet the job requirements for that skilled trade as prescribed by the National Occupation Classification.
  • Have a valid job offer of full-time employment for at least 1 year OR a certificate of qualification in that skilled trade.

Provincial Nominee Program (PNP)

The Provincial Nominee Program provides an alternative method to Canadian immigration for individuals who qualify as a skilled worker and wish to settle and gain permanent status in one of Canada’s provinces.  The PNP allows provinces and territories to nominate foreign nationals to apply for permanent residence in Canada.

Atlantic Immigration Program

The Atlantic Immigration Program was introduced to assist foreign skilled workers work and settle in the Atlantic provinces of Canada. This program is also useful for international graduates wishing to stay and settle in Atlantic Canada after graduation. There are 3 different programs:

  1. Atlantic International Graduate Program
  2. Atlantic High-Skilled Program
  3. Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program

Eligibility Requirements:

Atlantic International Graduate Program
  1. Have a degree, diploma or other credential from a publicly funded institution in one of the Atlantic provinces.
  2. Have lived in an Atlantic province for 16 of the last 24 months, before getting your degree, diploma or credential.
  3. Prove your English or French communication skills through a formal language test.
  4. Prove your ability to support yourself and your family when you come to Canada.

Atlantic High-Skilled Program

  1. Have at least 1 year of work experience in a management, professional, or technical/skilled job.
  2. Have a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education.
  3. Prove your English or French communication skills through a formal language test.
  4. Prove your ability to support yourself and your family when you come to Canada.

Atlantic Intermediate-Skilled Program
  1. Have at least 1 year of work experience in a job that requires a high school education and/or job-specific training for at least a year.
  2. Have a Canadian high school diploma or equivalent education.
  3. Prove your English or French communication skills through a formal language test.
  4. Prove your ability to support yourself and your family when you come to Canada.

Self-Employed

Self-employed individuals looking to immigrate to Canada permanently can use the Self-employed Persons Program as a pathway towards permanent residence. To qualify for this program, you must be self-employed and have relevant experience in cultural activities or athletics.  You must also be capable of making a significant contribution to the cultural or athletic life of Canada.
